Navratri means nine nights and is celebrated twice a year, once at the beginning of summer and again before the winter begins. Hence, they are known as Chaitra Navratra and Shaardey Navratra on the basis of the months in which they occur. During these nine days, Goddess Durga Puja is worshipped in Her many form as she is considered to be the absolute energy, which drives the whole universe. Women also plant nine different saplings and offer them to the Goddess for having a good harvest and eliminating all negative energies.

Navratri 2013 dates during Chaitra month are - from 11 April 2013, Thursday to 19 April 2013, Friday.
